Click the View | Zoom | Rectangle command or press CTRL+R to magnify a portion of the view. Hold down the left mouse button and drag a rectangle around the area of interest to magnify it.
Click on another tool button or press the ESC key to end zoom mode.
You can use a wheel mouse to zoom in/out and pan in the view window. Rotate the wheel forward to zoom in, or rotate the wheel backward to zoom out. The window auto scrolls to keep the point of interest centered.
